- National board certification requires that each music therapist has met the eligibility requirements to sit for – and pass the Certified Board for Music Therapists (CBMT) exam.
- A professional music therapist holds a bachelor’s degree or higher in music therapy from one of over 70 American Music Therapy Association (AMTA) approved college and university programs.
- In-depth knowledge in three main areas: musical foundations, clinical foundations, and music therapy foundations and principles as specified in the AMTA Professional Competencies.
- A minimum of 1200 hours of clinical training, including a supervised internship, prior to earning certification.
Sun Joo Lee, MM, MT-BC, MNTBoard Certified Music Therapist, Neurologic Music Therapist
Ms. Lee was born in Seoul Korea and has an undergraduate degree from SungShin Women’s University in Seoul.
She moved to Arizona in 2003 to study voice and music therapy and earned two master’s degrees from Arizona State University in 2008.
Upon graduation Sun Joo was approached by the Muhammad Ali Parkinson Center in Phoenix to establish a singing group for people with Parkinson’s disease in the Sun City area. The group known as the West Side Tremble Clefs has a counterpart on the east side in Scottsdale called Original Tremble Clefs which is also directed by Ms. Lee.
Currently, Sun Joo Lee works as a Board-Certified Music Therapist (MT-BC) for people with Neurological Disease and teaches voice and piano.
