- National board certification requires that each music therapist has met the eligibility requirements to sit for – and pass the Certified Board for Music Therapists (CBMT) exam.
- A professional music therapist holds a bachelor’s degree or higher in music therapy from one of over 70 American Music Therapy Association (AMTA) approved college and university programs.
- In-depth knowledge in three main areas: musical foundations, clinical foundations, and music therapy foundations and principles as specified in the AMTA Professional Competencies.
- A minimum of 1200 hours of clinical training, including a supervised internship, prior to earning certification.
Kristen Turner, MT-BCBoard Certified Music Therapist
Kristen Turner is a Board Certified Music Therapist and holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Music from Towson University. She, later, completed the Music Therapy Equivalency program at Arizona State University. She has experience working with a variety of populations including: developmental disabilities, traumatic brain injuries, psychiatric, and dementia.
Currently, Kristen is working with children, teens, and young adults with developmental disabilities and continues to serve in Tempe, Scottsdale, East Valley, and the greater Phoenix area in clinic and home based. She also leads rock band groups for teens and young adults with special needs.
Kristen is a multi-instrumentalist and is able to incorporate and teach instruments such as: cello, violin, guitar, bass, percussion, drum set, ukulele, and piano. She has knowledge of garage band and is able to utilize the program with recording projects such as song-writing and podcasts. She also has experience in drum circle facilitation and enjoys leading and participating in them.
