- National board certification requires that each music therapist has met the eligibility requirements to sit for – and pass the Certified Board for Music Therapists (CBMT) exam.
- A professional music therapist holds a bachelor’s degree or higher in music therapy from one of over 70 American Music Therapy Association (AMTA) approved college and university programs.
- In-depth knowledge in three main areas: musical foundations, clinical foundations, and music therapy foundations and principles as specified in the AMTA Professional Competencies.
- A minimum of 1200 hours of clinical training, including a supervised internship, prior to earning certification.
Christine Ockenfels, MT-BCBoard Certified Music Therapist Balance With Music
Christine Ockenfels, MT-BC graduated from Sam Houston State University in 2004 with a Bachelor of Music in Music Therapy and a minor in guitar. She has participated in additional training in Neurologic Music Therapy, Brain Gym, Bal-a-vis-x and Music Together. Christine is also an AzEIP certified early interventionist and is actively involved in the Early Childhood Music and Movement Association of Arizona.
Christine owns the private practice Balance with Music, LLC and serves people of varying ages and abilities in North Phoenix, North Glendale and North Peoria. Christine offers in-home or group music therapy services as well as adapted piano and guitar lessons for people with special needs with a focus on children with developmental delays. In her free time, Christine enjoys spending time with her husband and cats, gardening, martial arts and playing music.
